Dedicated to enhancing and promoting skating in our community the Sylvan Lake Figure Skating Club enables participation in skating for fun, fitness and/or achievement. With an emphasis on teamwork and communication, the club improves, encourages and enhances skating in our community.
CanSkate is a dynamic learn to skate program that focuses on fun, fitness, participation and basic skill development. This program is for beginners of all ages, as well as those wishing to improve their basic skills whether their focus be figure skating, hockey or just for fun.
This program is taught in a group lesson format by Professional Coaches and helped by trained volunteer Program Assistants. Our Coaches and Program Assistants work as a team to ensure that your skaters have fun and achieve success on the ice.
Pre-STARSkate is a program designed to help skaters make the transition from CanSkate to STARSkate. This is an introduction program designed to teach the basic skills of figure skating while still working on their CanSkate badges 3-6. To participate skaters are encouraged to have completed the stage 3 badge in the CanSkate program or have been invited by a coach.
The program is taught in a group format, during the GroupSTAR skating sessions. This is beneficial to the skaters since they get to be with skaters who have recently completed the Pre-STARSkate program.
The GroupSTAR Program introduces skaters to all disciplines of figure skating – free skate, dance and skating skills. It is an excellent opportunity for skaters to achieve personal growth and development in a group atmosphere. Our goal is to ensure that skaters gain skills needed to work towards their preliminary Skate Canada tests.
Lessons are taught by professional coaches in a group setting. Skaters are also given time to practice on their own during open session ice time. We strongly encourage skaters to book private or semi-private lessons from our Coaches to further enhance their skating abilities.
STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.
STARSkaters work independently to practice the techniques learned during their private lessons.
Private lessons are set up personally between the skaters and professional coaches.
